Like 4/20, 7/10 is a stoner holiday that gives us a chance to appreciate everything that cannabis means to us. While 4/20 celebrates cannabis in general, 7/10 is a day specifically dedicated to concentrates and oils. Concentrate fans may celebrate 7/10 by dabbing at 7:10 AM and/or 7:10 PM on July 10th. However, many people like to make it an all-day event because… why not?
The backstory of 7/10 is murky at best, but most simply put, when you flip the number 710 upside down (picture a calculator or digital clock), it looks just like the word ‘oil’.
Some say that the term ‘710’ first appeared on Urban Dictionary back in 2010, but that’s hard to verify. What we do know for sure is that the term first broke into the mainstream in July of 2013, when LA Weekly ran an article titled ‘710 is the new 420’ and when the first-ever 710 Cup was held in Denver to celebrate concentrates and concentrate producers.
If you’ve never heard of 7/10, you’re not alone. While 4/20 has been around for decades, 7/10 is less than 10 years old, and has only become more mainstream in the last few years. As cannabis continues to be destigmatized and concentrates become an increasingly popular format, we look forward to 710 growing into another widely known holiday in celebration of our favorite plant.
